Identities (poetry) by Bazhe *print book*

Identities is a collection of poetry written by Damages author Bazhe. I recommend you read his novel Damages before reading his poetry. You come to understand and relate more with him on a more personal level that way. Some poems do not reflect against his book but they are all very enjoyable.

I cannot elaborate on each poem written by Bazhe but I can tell you about one of my many favorites. It is called Gypsy Night and it is wonderfully descriptive. I can picture the Gypsy woman weaving her spells with dance throughout the night. It was so beautiful and I thought of it many times while going through the other poems.

Bazhe is a very talented author who lets his heart pour onto the pages exactly what he is feeling. Some emotions depicted were anger, sadness, and joy, each emotion blended beautifully with the poem I was reading at the time. Bazhe has not led an easy life by any means and if he can keep getting his feelings onto paper, then he will rise to the top. 5 Hearts

Flesh and the Devil by Devyn Quinn *print book*

Falling for a woman with secrets is more dangerous than undercover Vice Brenden Wallace could ever expect. It all started with Brenden’s investigation of the escort service Exotic Jewels, and trying to bust them for prostitution. The plan backfired when Liadan blew his cover, …only to blow his mind later that night under the covers!

Liadan was a creature of the night, vampyr if you will. She could not resist the spark she saw within Brenden and left her mark upon his neck. She wanted to be Brenden’s one and only but when her body and soul belonged to something else, something evil, it was just not possible.

Auguste Maximilan was the owner of Liadan and now Brenden. Only the power of the Ancient Wyr’s hidden inside Brenden and his sister Dani, could even stand a chance against Auguste. Can love win against the forces of evil? Or will all be lost into a dark void?

Devyn Quinn’s book Flesh and the Devil is phenomenal! The warning label on the back cover tells the reader that this is a really HOT book and it is exactly that, HOT! The characters were very life like and the storyline was easy to follow allowing the reader to escape into a whole other world. The erotic scenes defined the word erotic, at some point I expected the pages to go up in flames. This book is sure to heat you up on a cold night. 5 Hearts

Standing Still by Liz DeJesus *Amazon Short*

Tim knew he loved Rose from the moment he saw her at age 17. Time has taken a toll on the love he felt for Rose, it is eight years later. She was married now to another man, and was 4 months pregnant with his child. Tim missed his chance.

After hearing the news, Rose broke down and cried the tears of a lost friendship. He was walking right out of her life, the last memory she would have of him is that soul searing kiss. All she could do was cry.

Liz DeJesus' Amazon Short story entitled Standing Still, is an addictive piece of literature. Even though the story was very short, it had a good story line and the affect to let you feel what the characters are experiencing. I hope there is a continuance to Standing Still. 5 Hearts

Remembering Our Angels: Personal Stories Of Healing From A Pregnancy Loss by Hannah Stone *print book*

Remembering Our Angels: Personal Stories Of Healing From A Pregnancy Loss is a perfect title for Hannah Stone’s book. Each child that was lost in this book was a little
Angel, it just was not their time to take their place on this world just yet, for whatever reason it may be.

The first few chapters were very informative, while the last chapters were tear jerkers. Some entries were written by doctors that have experienced child loss on a personal basis or have had patients that have suffered through the loss of a child. Other entries were written by mother’s or fathers that have also experienced child loss. I found a lot of information there that I had no idea even existed.

I did not know that there was a thing called a perinatal grieving kit. It includes sometimes a plaster mold for the parents to have a little hand or footprint, a container for a lock of hair, and a couple other little things to help remember the child instead of trying to forget what happened. The day a parent looses a child is forever scared on their hearts, and nothing will ever make that day disappear.

In Remembering Our Angels, it tells of ways parents grieved in their own ways. Most have found Internet support groups, talked with other parents that have had a loss, and have even found what works for them in order to help the grieving process. One thing that touched me was a balloon release ceremony. It in a way is like sending a gift up to your child in my opinion.

Having had a miscarriage of my own, this book brings to light a few things I’ve never thought of before. It is a great help to any who have lost a child no matter the age even if it was only a couple of weeks along or at the end of the nine month gestation period. If you or someone you know is hurting pick up a copy of Remembering Our Angels as well as Hannah Stone’s other book Forever Our Angels, it has a lot of information between the pages for helping to heal the heart. 5 Hearts

Darkness Won't Rest: Phil's Place II by Joseph McGee *Amazon short*

It had been almost one year since that fateful night. Sean was still haunted by what he witnessed in the strange cabin last January. The cabin was a living breathing thing to him, it called to him. Beckoning him to come back inside the gates of Hell.

Sean let his curiosity get the better of him. He went back in search of the cabin to find out what really happened there. The cabin stared at him with cold knowing eyes. When he crossed the threshold rooms appeared and the house began to expand. Something was very wrong, but Sean had to put this cabin and souls to rest. Upon exploring the hallway into Hell, he heard the chains and moaning. He knew something was here waiting for him.

A little girl around the age of twelve stood immobile in a room full of dozens of candles. She informed Sean he was not the one to make things right. It would be in a little over 24 years when his son Jonathan would put everything to rest including Sean.

Phil, Sean’s brother found the note lying on the bar informing him of Sean’s intentions involving the cabin. Phil immediately went in search of his brother knowing he may not make it out alive this time. When Phil neared where the cabin should be, there was nothing.

Joseph McGee’s second short story in the set, Darkness Won’t Rest: Phil’s Place II, is just as chilling as the first. Mr. McGee continues to capture the reader’s attention with skillful detail and mysteriously eerie events. I look forward to having the hairs on my arms stand up when the next story in the series is introduced. 5 Hearts

Phil's Place by Joseph McGee *Amazon short*

Phil Macleod and his stepbrother Sean Macleod were about to close up the bar for the night when a man burst through the front door. The blizzard outside was hellacious and the man could barely stand. He told Sean and Phil about his car skidding off the road into a snow bank near Sinisar and how he left his wife and son inside the car.

Phil and Sean decided to take the man to the police station in hopes of them going out to look for the man's wife and son still trapped inside the car. It was impossible to climb the snow covered hill to the station so Sean decided they would have to help Quentin Richards find his family.

Sinisar was an evil place, rumored to be haunted. Many urban legends surrounded the area and Sean did not want to go close enough to see if any of those ghastly rumors were true. They did however see a cabin, thinking Quentin's family may have gone inside for warmth, they entered.

Following the Amber light at the top of the stairs that should not exist in a one story cabin, would prove deadly for Quentin's family. A shadowed robed figure stood above a woman and son mounted on crucifixes. The figure named Greer said they must die in order to close the door to Hell. Shadows began to fill the room and moaning from the dead could be heard. As the knife plunged into the boy’s heart.....Sean awoke.

Joseph McGee's short story entitled Phil's Place is chilling. It left me felling cold and an eerie feeling washed over me. For being such a short story there was a lot of detail, I could picture myself as a bystander that cold winter night. I have no idea what is going on in Mr. McGee's head but as long as these ideas are still put onto paper, then I know when I'm looking for a scare, he will be right there. 5 Hearts

Forever Our Angels by Hannah Stone *print book*

Forever Our Angels by Hannah Stone is a collection of heart-felt and heart-wrenching stories from men and women alike that have all suffered child loss. Whether it be from miscarriage or still birth, each loss is unexplainably hard to deal with. I personally don’t think it can ever be just dealt with. That child will always hold a special place in your heart and there will be days when you remember something about that day and hurt all over again.

Each story explains how the person felt when they found out they were expecting, how they started to feel when something was not quite right, and the denial and guilt when they were told the horrible news. “ I’m sorry, there is no heartbeat, your baby is dead.” Crushing all hopes for some that it was not meant to be, and then for others that keep their hopes up of still conceiving in the future.

Miscarriage is more common than most think. 1 in 4 women suffer miscarriage early on; that saying about making it past the 12th week is not always true. The women in this book lost the children at different times throughout the pregnancy; some had to have D&C’s when it was still early enough and then others were faced with birthing their dead child.

I am one of the one in four women that have had a miscarriage and I know personally how hard it is once you’ve lost the little life growing inside of you that you yearn to snuggle with one day. I had the support of my husband and family, but they could not really console me because it was me that had lost the child. I wish I had found this book right after my miscarriage, I believe it would have helped ease the pain knowing that others have experienced the same kind of loss.

Hannah Stone is also the author of Remembering Our Angels, another book on personal stores of healing from pregnancy loss. Ms. Stone’s novella was heart warming and can bring a sense of peace to the reader that may have experienced this kind of overwhelming pain. If you are in need of coping or needing to hear other stories to see that you’re not alone, then please pick up Forever Our Angels. It will help. 5 Hearts

Ms. Fainges fantasy e-book The Shayton Chronicles Book One, Destiny Sets is a story filled with everything from bats, wolves, different worlds and much much more. There is even a touch of love for all those out there that crave that in a fantasy story. I think this was a well written tale, that makes me wonder what is going to happen in book two...keeping the reader wanting more is what a great author is all about. 4 Hearts

The Reaper by Joseph McGee *print book* not yet released

David bells and Maggie Wilson had been dating for 4 years when David started having the feeling Maggie was hiding something from him. He couldn’t place what it was; he just knew something was off. He had no idea her Obsession was the secret, and that secret would come to be the cause of her death.

Maggie was fascinated by the undead and sought out the spirits residing in the supposed haunted Psychiatric Hospital. The Reaper was waiting for her, he was known as the father of all the eerie black eyed children. She met her demise in a rather gruesome way at the shadowed hands of the Reaper, but not before she left an e-mail for David warning him to stay away from the hospital at all costs.

David was swarmed by ghastly shadows, and chanting children’s voices in his head warned him the Reaper was coming to play. He bolted to Maggie’s house only to discover her parents were slaughtered. Then it hit him, the old hospital is where he would find Maggie. He found a note left from beyond the grave saying something about finding out the horsemen’s secret and all will be stopped. Until then who will be next?

Includes two bonus short stories: Dreamland & Over Hanson Creek County

Dreamland is a very short story that would scare the pants off of any child. A twelve year old awaits the man named Bob that appears under his bed, to show up and carry him off to Dreamland. Where everything is all fun and games with pools and waterslides. Boy did this kid get ripped off when he is left standing in the middle of a grassy field left with a choice…to be the killer or the victim. He must choose quickly because a man is standing before him with a chainsaw. The less than perfect home and family does not look so bad to the kid now!

Over Hanson Creek County is a tale of utter grotesque horror. Slug people attacking others and slugs burrowing through bodies leaving nasty gaping holes. Matt Connelly writes the story as a journal entry explaining the day when “They” showed up and ruined his world. Killing his son and wife, Matt had no other choice than to leave their bodies behind and save himself. It seemed there were thousands of these alien creatures, what do they want and where exactly did they come from?

Joseph McGee is masterfully skilled in penning horror stories that will make you afraid to turn out the lights. I am going to have to go and read a steamy erotic romance just to get these frightful visions out of my head. The characters come to life (before they’re killed that is) with the detail Mr. McGee puts into his work. If you’re looking for a book to make your blood run cold then this is the one for you. The Reaper is the first part of a spine chilling trilogy yet to come and if I can get the courage to read them I will surely add them to my, to be read pile. 5 Hearts

Dreamsbane of Tamalor by Bradley James Simpson *print book*

Dreamsbane of Tamalor is an adventurous tale of magic, evil, friends and love. Everyone must come together to save the lives of friends and loved ones in hopes of defeating Darglo the Lord of Sleep and Dreams.

Sunray is the wife of the wizard Mirin. She is bitten by a werewolf when the beasts attacked General Frederick Wolf’s castle and is beginning to suffer from lycanthropy. Kiril being able to travel through dreamscapes, is accosted by Darglo and injured severely by one of his shadowy enforcers. Along with Wolf and his new wife and healer Linda and a few other soldiers they make their way into Darkhaven Forrest in search of the mystic healer Lithtaril.

With Lithtaril’s help and the strength of the others, they must pull together to defeat Darglo. Darglo speaks in riddles about what his powers can do once he takes over. But one will have the power to stop him. Who?

Bradley James Simpson’s fantasy novella is an adventure into another realm that entertains the readers imaginary side. I am not sure what the time period is but it seems medieval of the sorts with magic, a dragon and wizards. The beginning was a little too jumbled with the in depth explaining of each character. It just stared out slowly, but once you got to where all the action is, the book was over well before I realized I was reading the last page. Jump into the world of dreams and magic with Mr. Simpson, you will be glad you did. 4 Hearts

The Fortune Hunter by Jasmine Haynes *print book*

Faith Castle was a nearly thirty year old single kindergarten teacher that wanted nothing more than to have children of her own. But without a man that was just not going to happen, until her best friend Trinity introduced her to dreamy Conner Kingston at the country club ball.

Connor watched in amazement and excitement as he watched Faith touch her self while spying on a couple behind the bushes. He had a plan for Ms. Castle, he was going to marry that woman and take over her father’s company; but what was in it for Faith? He would give her what she wanted most, although he could not promise her what she needed.

Pictures of a man and woman engaging in sexual activity showed up on Faith’s doorstep but she did not for one minute believe it was Conner. The prenup that everyone agreed upon would not allow him to cheat or he would lose everything. That was too large of a risk to take. Especially when he wanted the fortune he was in pursuit of getting. Only he would find that the fortune is not in money or corporations…love has no price.

This couple could heat it up in the bedroom, or any other place for that matter. Each erotic experiment was just that, an experiment. Faith had never before been a vixen or closet dominatrix if you will. But Connor showed her that she was a very desirable woman and needed to come out of her shell to know what sex with him could really be like. Let me tell you, this book will make you tingle all over!

Ms. Haynes’ book The Fortune Hunter is a vividly erotic romance well worth reading. It was addictive as well as an absolute joy to read. The storyline was heart warming and boy oh boy it was Sizzling! Ms. Haynes has done it again, a fabulous book that you must read. It is so hot that it should come with a WARNING label! 5 Hearts

Blue Heron Marsh: A Webb Sawyer Mystery *print book*

At a very young age a small black child witnessed the most horrid thing imaginable. Four rich white kids from an uppity prep school showed up one night forcing the boy’s father to get into one of the vehicles. The boy knew something was wrong so he ran after the cars to see what was going on. The father was brutally beaten, hanged and tar pitch was poured on his private areas. As the six year old could only watch in mute horror, he burned the image of those boys in his mind and later he would seek his revenge.

Webb Sawyer was newly released from the psychiatric ward. He murdered a man while in Sarajevo serving in the Army, and he was given the option to not be prosecuted if he spent some time in the loony bin. The terrorist murdered the brother and father of a girl he fell in love with, the girl was also gang raped and forced to watch her family die. Most everyone saw him as a hero.

Webb’s girlfriend Nan wanted him to help solve a murder but he refused. On the way back home Nan saw another woman boating over to Webb’s fishing shack that also doubled as his home. In a fit of jealousy she ran off with a man she played chess with on the Internet and married him. Webb decided to help Amanda Eure, prove her friend Clara’s innocence.

It was a very tangled web of murders and lies. Amanda was a user but Webb would find that out a little too late. Who was killing these successful men in such an atrocious manner? Was it the little boy looking for revenge or did someone else have a hand in framing someone? Webb had been betrayed and then when he found out the awful truths he did not know what to do. Bring the person in for doing the exact same thing he did in Sarajevo….or would it even come down to that?

Blue Heron Marsh is an addictive mystery novel that captivates the reader and transports them into the story. I felt like I was following along throughout the whole adventure right by Webb’s side. Masterfully detailed characters and story line keeps the reader wanting more. There were secondary characters that brought their own special touch to this novel and I think it was just perfect. A great murder mystery at its best written by the skilled hands of Douglas Quinn well deserves all 5 hearts!

Feeding The Squirrels by Roy L. Pickering Jr. *e-book*

Feeding The Squirrels by Roy L. Pickering Jr., is a novella into the sexual life of a man named Michael. The last name is still unknown, and it seems that he never mentions the last names of his female partners either. Michael flitters from one woman to the next, caring not about how badly the woman is going to feel once he has gotten her into the bedroom and conquered his prize.

Most women mean nothing to Michael. For instance, he meets Sally online through a chat room. When they meet things get all hot and heavy and the couple retires from the restaurant to be alone; only Sally has quite a secret she has kept hidden from Michael. The two have more in common than he could ever expect…if you know what I mean!

Yvette, the lady that has served Michael countless meals at the diner becomes his next fling. He felt sorry for the way her husband abused her, and thought he could show her what making love was and give her an escape from the horrid life. Even if it was only for an hour any time Michael could spare.

Then along came Dawn, she was the one that Michael never expected to let into his life. He was smitten with her and actually was faithful to her for a time. Vanessa was just a spur of the moment thing and he actually regretted being with her because he realized he loved Dawn. Dawn had no idea what Michael was doing behind her back with Yvette, until he wanted to end the relationship with Yvette even after she threatened his life.

Yvette makes a phone call, and when Michael thinks his girlfriend is at the door, he is sorely mistaken. Who is at the door with a gun? If a dying man has only a few moments left to live, at least he can remember the time when he was most happy. Feeding the squirrels.

Mr. Pickering writes a novella all about sex, there is not much else in this story. I would not classify this as erotic or romantic; if anything I would label it as a journal of sorts; the sex life of Michael. The novella was okay for me, there were times when each story sounded just like the other. Eventually toward the middle, Michael’s life started to get a little more interesting. My favorite part was the ending, it was so real and explosive I just wish there were more action like that throughout the book. Mr. Pickering is new to the literary world and I hope that he continues to pursue writing as a career. 3.5 Hearts

The Rice Queen Spy by John F. Rooney *print book*

The Rice Queen by John F. Rooney is the story of Philip Croft, a once spy for Her Majesty's secret service. When news of his sexual orientation was discovered, Philip was tortured brutally by the same service he worked for; by a former colleague none the less. He was forced to give up two names of other men serving in the secret service that were also gay. He was demoted from being a well known master spy to working in the library, at least it was better than the torture.

Having to hide his sexuality from the service for over fifty years, it was a breath of fresh air when he got to live freely after being outed. Philip begins to tell stories about his travels to Asia in search of young men to take on as lovers. Philip is a self proclaimed Rice Queen; that is a Caucasian male not interested in other Caucasian males, they prefer Asians. Philip Croft is no longer afraid and enjoys the parties and vacations with some of his other gay friends known as the "seekers". He even decides to open a gay spa.

There is a man from the past that blames Philip for the trouble he has been accused of, he wants revenge against Philip. Does that man have no decency, I guess he truly does not recall how horribly he tortured poor Philip and laughed all the while at the ex-spy's pain.

The Rice Queen Spy is a novel that is quite interesting, from following years and daily life of the main character, I feel like I know him personally. I wish there were more excitement as most of the story was just repetition but once the story got going, for me it was wonderful. Especially toward the end I couldn't turn the pages quick enough to see what would happen next.

Mr. Rooney has a skill for penning an intriguing gay story that will take you into the life of a very strong and honestly happy man, just wanting to live his life. I would consider this an adult novel as the first two lines spit out a string of expletives, but for the young adults maybe they would enjoy it just as well. 4 Hearts

The Janitor by Adam Decker *print book*

Tony Falcone had only a few things on his teenage mind that seemed the utmost important. Sally, sex, baseball, poker and more sex with Sally. No matter how many times he tried to do the deed, they were interrupted and then life just changed...Roman Swivel was about to become his best friend and let Tony in on the secrets he'd kept hidden for the past six years.

Roman Swivel was a lonely geek eating lunch alone with his nose stuck in a book, he was also the schools student janitor. Johnny the 'killer' could not resist picking on Roman as well as getting the rest of the school to partake on the torture to the guy leading a double and sometimes even triple life. Johnny's rage boiled down to jealousy once his girlfriend started having lunch with Roman and Johnny was not named the killer because his last name was Killman; he was going to get rid of this little pest once and for all at the Hallow.

No matter how many times Roman was teased or tortured he never faltered, his anger never surfaced to the top. Roman lost so much in his life, first his mother and then his father. He came to live with foster parents in which he was regularly beaten. Then the big break came when Agent Johnson approached the Pentoch's and Roman offering Roman the chance to "save the country" by joining the NN. Once you're in the NN there is no way to quit, you must die to get out. And that is what it would boil down to.

Enemies became friends, friends became brothers and the most popular girl in school became the janitor's lover. Even the drunken neighbor claiming to see aliens brought something new and wonderful into the once thought of cold and empty heart of Roman Swivel. It was not fate that threw such atrocities into the young man's life...it was simply that life. Lives were lost, and not only a few but the man that murdered Roman's parents would soon meet the angel of death; he wore a plain drab janitor suit.

Adam Decker's Novel The Janitor was electric, bolts of excitement were on every single page. I loved the story line and the characters grew up right before my eyes. There were so many trivial parts of this book, it kept you wondering what would happen next and if Roman would ever survive the NN. The middle to end of the book was over before I know it, and the last two sentences on the page gave me chills. This book is a winner through and through, Young Adults as well as Adults could appreciate the fine work Mr. Decker has scrawled across these pages. 5 Hearts
