The Renegade by Jane Timm Baxter *print book*

Living a life of utter distress, little Alice would one day be transformed from the hooking, sexually abused teenager into someone very powerful; vampire…but she really would be more than that Falling in love with a man beholding secrets was a sick experiment on his part and when he died before consummating their marriage, and leaving her as Vanessa White all hell was about to break loose.

Eventually meeting another man known as Mark, Vanessa thought this was love; until he faked his own death. As an Elite he had special powers that allowed him to transfer his soul into another host taking on any appearance he wished. Now she was on the hunt for him, she needed revenge, she needed to see him truly dead. He knew she was on his tail, but he had big plans in store for her…until the day she caught him unaware. Then he turned the tables and began obsessively tracking her.

With the help of two members of the Elite, Vanessa must destroy The Renegade, but there is much betrayal and deceit that must be brought out into the open. People are not as they seem, and Vanessa’s past has just come back to haunt her.

Jane Timm Baxter knows how to write a good horror story! She masters the art of horror entangled with mystery and makes The Renegade a scream to read. Her vampires and Elite’s are cousin races but have much in common, you do not want to pass up this book if you see it on your bookstore’s shelf! 4 Bloody Hearts

Ancient Musings, Song of the Muses: Calliope by Skhye Moncrief *ebook*

Banished from Mt. Olympus by her father Zeus, the muse of writing and epic poetry, Calliope finds herself facing her Uncle Hades in the Underworld. She should not have voiced her request to become mortal to the most powerful God without knowing he would disapprove and punish her.

Calliope was tired of today’s mortals, lazy and so self involved, they were not the hero’s like those of the past. Her life’s work has come to a lull, she wished to become mortal so that eventually she could pass on from the world instead of being stuck in a “job” that obviously was going no where. Then her punishment led her to meet the most amazing hero she had ever known…even if he was living in the land of souls unable to cross the Acheron.

Jake would be Calliope’s savior even after stealing her token to cross the Acheron in hopes of escaping the moaning souls surrounding him. He quickly became Calliope’s escort, guard, and more…much more. Could a Goddess really be interested in him, was it the Elysian change that made him more attractive? He silently vows to keep her safe from Zeus’ Harpies and other dangers that await trying to rob her of her essence. The true test will come at the end, die or love?

Skhye Moncrief’s novella Ancient Musings, Song of the Muses: Calliope, is my single most favorite of all the novels she has written. Refreshing, exciting, and an extremely enjoyable read, Ms. Moncrief made me fall in love with her characters. I honestly want more, so come on Skhye snap to it, there has to be more in this love story, you’ve got me hooked! 5 Hearts

Poems From DA*NANG: Recollections of a Combat Chaplain by Chaplain Vincent W. Carroll *print book* Triad Publishing

Chaplain Vincent W. Carroll, recounts his memories during the Vietnam War in 1971 through poetry and photo’s taken while serving his country. His poetry reflects the truths and horrors that is war.

From the orphan population that grew daily, to the actual fighting, Dear John Letters, and the empty metal helmet, sadness emanates from within these pages. As the Vietnam War went on, the soldiers had rare occasions that they could R&R while talking or entertaining the orphan children or strolling through DA NANG. Chaplain Carroll captured his memories with film, in which he shares all throughout his book.

A collection of poetry written by a soldier has more heart, raw emotion and dedication poured into it than anything I have ever read. There are many things that we do not see or hear as the war progresses but through the eyes of a soldier truly alone, war is a devil hard to put asunder.

Chaplain Vincent W. Carroll is now a retired Navy Chaplain but these memories will forever be etched into his mind as his poetry is etched into my heart. I will share the very first part of my favorite poem by Mr. Carroll, Home Sweet (Hooch), Home!:

No mom, no dad, nobody home
No bedtime stories, just alone
No sisters, brothers, or telephone
No girl, no pal….just a war zone.

If you enjoy that little paragraph then I know you will love the rest of Mr. Carroll’s poetry. He has a way of bringing Vietnam to life, even to someone like me that was not alive during that particular War. Spectacular and informative, Poems From DA*NANG is a winner in my book! 5 Hearts

Buzz’s Journey by Ryan Green, Illustrations by T. Bell *print book* Triad Publishing

Buzz’s Journey by Ryan Green, Illustrations by T. Bell *print book* Triad Publishing

Buzz the bee looked like a bee, flew like a bee, but he was missing the buzzzzz like a bee. He had a melodious hmmmmm instead of the uniform buzzzzz like all of the other bees. Buzz wanted to be normal, he wanted to be just like everyone else so he set out to look for his buzzzzz.

Along his journey Buzz spoke with his friend the ant, flew into a turtle named Slow Wilbert and rescued a young lady bee from a mean old spider that planned on having her for lunch. Instantly Floris knew that Buzz was different and she liked that he was unique. Buzz had finally found his buzz, it was inside of him all along.

The moral of this story: It is ok to be different.

Buzz’s Journey by Ryan Green and Illustrated by T. Bell is the cutest childrens book I have ever read! The story line was adorable, and easily understandable for children. It also teaches children that it is ok to be different. The illustrations were a perfect addition filled with vibrant colors sure to keep their attention. I reviewed Buzz’s Journey while my son was sleeping but tomorrow at bedtime this is the book I will read to him; and many nights after. 5 Hearts

Vienna Dolorosa by Mykola Dementiuk *print book*

Vienna Dolorosa by Mykola Dementiuk is quite disturbing and very uninhibited with sexual content, transvestitism, sodomy, underage sex, and much more. It was honestly a stomach turning read, based in 1938 Vienna during Hitler’s reign.

Boys dressed as girls so grown men could sate sexual fantasies, a Nazi follower castrated for being found with a young boy in the lavatory, murder of a teenage male prostitute, and pure ungoverned filth pretty much describe the goings on of Frau Friska’s Hotel and staff.

Friska Bielinska was a transvestite, dressing as a woman professing to run a legitimate hotel, but she had hidden secrets; she also ran a teen brothel were men could have intercourse with young boys dressed up in skirts, bra’s, stockings and wigs.

Petya was one of the boys Friska had taken under her wing, and through out the story you get to experience life during Hitler’s raids in his eyes. He has seen way too much horror for a child of 14. Helmut works at Friska’s hotel and he is a long time friend, but he did something toward the middle of this book that made me think of him as a dirty old pervert, just whipping things out without any concerns to the other person’s feelings.

I know it all sounds negative, but the book was very well written, just the content is very hard to grasp and swallow. Uncivilized and uncultured the Nazi’s tortured innocent people and spit or ejaculated on them once they were beaten beyond recognition more often than not. Stealing possessions and crushing hopes, dreams and lives.

Mykola has talent for penning the truths of the old world, making me physically ill, this is not a book I would read for a second time, I don’t think my stomach could handle it second time around. The author details events as precisely as if I am watching the local news on television. I will not give a bad review for a book that is not my taste because it was extremely horrific, but was very well written. 3.5 Hearts

Death by Delilah by Ashlyn Chase *ebook*

Delilah and Josh both had a secret crush on each other years ago when they were living in Iceland attending school. But as they grew up neither really crossed the boundaries of friendship, until Delilah moved in with Josh and his sister Gabby.

Celebrating Gabby’s new job offer, the trio went out for a few drinks…and you know what happens when you mix hormones that have been pent up for too long and some good old fashion alcohol. Some really hot drunken sex!

There is a problem though, Delilah was an enlist and Josh was a lieutenant in the Navy. He is not supposed to be fraternizing with the enlists let alone falling in love with one. When his superior finds out what has been going on, Delilah chooses to sacrifice her career and their love so that he can continue being in the Navy. But don’t think that is the end of the story.

You have yet to hear about the meddling grandparents that are keeping a close watch on their daughter Delilah’s love life. They will do everything in their undead power to get Josh and Delilah together, even if it involves making Delilah seem insane.

Ashlyn Chase’s erotic novella Death by Delilah is a really hot fast-paced romance well worth reading. A couple defying the odds with a little help from the undead. Ms. Chase has a way with writing steamy love-making scenes that can get you all hot and bothered, make sure you’ve got a cool glass of water handy, no it is not to drink, but to douse yourself with! 5 Hearts

Times Queer by Mykola Dementiuk *print book*

At seven years of age on the subway little Richard Kozlovsky or Ricky as he is more known through the story receives his first sexual advance. A man fumbling with the zipper of his pants, but is stopped before any skin to skin touching happens. The place he was at, was referred to as Times Queer, instead of Times Square. It was said that no matter the time of day or night you could find sexual pleasure in Times Queer. Ricky etched the names 42nd street and Broadway into his mind because he knew he wanted to come back to this place.

That was the very beginning of a lot of pent up hormones begging for release, sitting in movie houses being touched and masturbated by men, and even a woman that he fell in love with. It was never truly admitted in the story but I knew he had feelings for Red. Ricky was obsessed, addicted even to sex or sexual acts; as long as he got what he wanted he was satisfied, and he made sure it was more than once, twice, even three times a day.

Ricky was not sure of his orientation sometimes, he was forced to perform on a man that threatened to kill him and another time on a friend from school. Both times made him physically ill, but when something terrible happened to Red I think Ricky grew up a little more. Still horny as any teenage boy could be, Ricky went on with life.

Times Queer is a novella that is appalling in a way, because this young child is being molested publically by grown men. He is forced to grow up much too quickly not knowing what to do with the raging hormones inside of his body. But he enjoys every minute of it, he enjoys the touching the release and the euphoric feeling after the job is done. Dirty, naughty and very real Mykola Dementiuk has written a book that will give you a glimpse into his main characters mind. 4 Hearts

Convention by Alfred James *short story in NexGen Pulp Magazine*

Sam stood back watching the arrival of the science fiction goers, he knew they wouldn’t see him even if he was standing right on top of the hotel check in desk. Sam did not receive much attention when he was alive, but now being dead stuck in the world unable to cross over, he has made his mark on the convention attendees. They all hoped to see him, to see the shadow catcher.

A few years back Sam made contact with a girl while she was in her bathroom, that day left her screams imprinted on him. But she was back this year and Sam thought he would try to connect with her again, only this time he did so in a fit of rage scaring her even worse than last time. Sam is about to uncover something special Leila has hidden, there is more to her than meets the eye.

Alfred James’ short story featured in the Feb. issue of NexGen Pulp Magazine is eerily intriguing. The ending is a very good twist to the story. Short stories always leave me wanting more, I do hope Mr. James continues to pen tales just like this one. 4.5 Hearts

Dragon Wytch by Yasmine Galenorn *print book*

Camille D’Artigo and her sisters must pull all of their powers together to find a way to restore balance to the Earthside realm in which they reside. It seems that Earthside is very near to be taken over by many evil creatures from the Otherworld. First a goblin, sawberry, and a bugbear threaten Camille and the crowned unicorn prince Feddrah Dahns, because they are searching for the magical artifact that never quite made it to Camille via Feddrah’s pixie Mistletoe. The thing Mistletoe is keeping safe could destroy the world if it were to ever land in the wrong hands, the problem is Mistletoe is missing.

Throughout the story many creatures appear trying to wreak as much havoc as possible, keeping the sisters on their toes. All the while Camille is trying to get control of everything Earthside as well as the three sexy men in her life, her lover, her other lover, and a deliciously sexy dragon; that has chosen her to be his mate. Uh oh what is Trillian going to think of this?

This demonic war is hell on Earthside. Someone staying on Smoky’s land has plans to raise a Queen from the past and start up what ended so many years ago. What will happen when a new mystery unfolds? The D’Artigo sisters are kicking butt and not worrying about taking names. But what is going to happen between Camille and all of her men? Something Trillian may just have to deal with. There is also the man who has seen the third spirit seal, there is a little glitch here, he is locked up in an Asylum and does not want to talk to humans.

Yasmine Galenorn’s novel Dragon Wytch is an action packed fantasy with a kick. Half Fae sisters with powers that choose not to work correctly at the most inappropriate times and a whole lot of mischief makes Dragon Wytch a delight to read. This is a series book, and I felt that toward the beginning when they were talking about events that must have happened in the previous novel, sometimes I got sort of lost and confused. Now that I know Ms. Galenorn’s writing style is amazing and I am definitely going to have to go back and read the rest of the series. Sexy, intriguing, and full of sass Ms. Galenorn pens a winner! 4.5 Hearts

Happy Hour at Casa Dracula by Marta Acosta *print book*

The sassy albeit bored Milagro de los Santos is about to embark on a new journey in her life. One moment she is living in a rat infested dank room as it was not so much an apartment, and the next she is staring into the eyes of Mr. Fabulous.

Oswald and Milegro both were interested in the guest of honor at the party they were attending, although both had their own reasons why they wanted to see Sebastian Beckett-Witherspoon. Oswald wanted to know some history because Sebastian is a very real threat to him, so what better way then to talk to his ex-girlfriend? That talk ended with a kiss that could kill Milegro. They say vampires don’t exist but when a blood exchange happens, it is much harder to deny.

Kidnapped by Sebastian, rescued by a gay vampire claiming not to be a vampire, and then living with a group of people that drink animal blood late at night still claiming to be genetic anomalies, not vampires; Milegro has come the closest to ever knowing what being apart of a family could ever feel like. With the exception of Edna’s snide and rude remarks, she felt loved most by her.

A secret organization of CACA is on the move to capture Milegro’s new family, and Sebastian is the head of the team. It will take working together, even after Milegro ran out on the family after being caught naked in the dark with Mr. Fabulous. Did I mention Oswald was engaged? And that his fiancĂ©e that he’s never slept with is pregnant? And what about the “genetic anomaly” that Oswald infected Milegro with…will she now be one of them? Ahh and let’s not forget about the charming Ian Ducharme that Milegro makes quite and appearance on…so many fascinating events, so little time for me to explain them.

Marta Acosta’s Happy Hour at Casa Dracula is enchanting, wickedly witty, and undeniably fantastic! Ms. Acosta has a way with interjecting so much life into her characters, making it impossible to close the book until you are finished. I kept saying one more chapter then I will go to bed, well 8 chapters later I forced myself to close the cover only to wake up bright and early to finish reading about Milegro’s adventures or maybe misshapes would be a better word. Happy Hour at Casa Dracula is a book that will guarantee a few good laughs! 5 Hearts

Jeanie Johnson’s, Volatile: The Empress and the Executioner is an erotic vampire story filled with action, sex, love and betrayal. I enjoyed reading Ms. Johnson’s style of writing and her take on vampires. A sizzling hot read for all you vamp lovers out there! I hope this is a series because something was said between sisters that either makes me feel that I’ve missed something or there are more events left to unravel in book II. 4.5 Hearts

The Secret of Instant Healing by Frank J. Kinslow *print book reviewed in PDF*

If you had the power to heal soreness, aches, pains, emotional distress, or any other problems while healing yourself, would you do it? There are no adverse effects to you as the healer/healed; actually you benefit from just being aware.

I will admit I was very skeptical while reviewing The Secret of Instant Healing; in the beginning. As I followed the step by step exercises to finding pure awareness and Quantum Entrainment; as well as completing the little tests Mr. Kinslow introduces, I quickly became a believer! I could focus my energy on my middle finger and it actually appeared to grow longer than the one on my opposite hand. Thank goodness it went back to normal!

This book is a step by step guide on awakening the inner awareness inside of you; with a little humor here and there. You can learn how to heal without medicines, acupuncture, or old family remedies; just by using your mind and energy within your body or the body of the person you are healing at that time.

The Secret of Instant Healing by Frank J. Kinslow is a strangely true book that I will re-read and follow more closely so that I can always be aware and keep my skills honed in the instance that they are needed. I felt like Mr. Kinslow was sitting right next to me talking as a friend with his silly comments thrown in and the natural way the words seemed to flow. A truly enjoyable and informative read that will open your eyes and your awareness. 4 Hearts
